Hello Blog, Long Time No See!

Hello Everyone!
WOW! I can't believe its been nearly 2 months since my last post. The end of the year got really crazy in so many ways that it made it so hard to post. However, this summer it is my goal to make posting more of a routine (along with working out but we'll have to see what happens with that one! LOL) Along with posting more regularly, I have been posting some things to TPT, back to school stuff of course! It is so great to read on all of your blogs that so many teachers leave school for summer break (I emphasize break because we know that we should be resting and relaxing but are definitely not) and can think of very little but getting back into the classroom and preparing for next year. I think that I start to think about how I can make large improvements/changes to my room and routines a few weeks before the school year ends. It's so exciting!

Here are a few of the items that I have posted in my TPT store. I am definitely full of ideas and will be adding more soon. I hope that you'll take a look. :)

This is a cute game that I created to help students with identifying uppercase and lowercase letters and letter sounds. We do a lot of fun apple activities at the beginning of the year so I also tried to integrate some science concepts into the activity by using red, yellow and green apples (uppercase letters on red apples, lowercase letters on green apples, and alphabet clip art on yellow apples). While setting up a game or activity I love to use that time to review concepts and get an idea for what students have learned through conversation.

This is another apple-themed game that I posted to TPT. I  love nursery rhymes and I also love integrating songs, poetry, music etc. into the activities that I do in my classroom. This activity blends together the nursery rhyme a-tisket, a-tasket along with letter name and sound identification. I am really excited to introduce this game to my students!

The last item that I posted to TPT was a math write the room for the beginning of the year. This activity emphasizes counting and number identification and is a great math write the room for the beginning of the year. My students really enjoyed this activity and I am looking forward to introducing it earlier on this year.

If you click on any of the items above it will take you straight to my TPT store. :)

I also updated my number books so if you purchased this item be sure to re-download!

In addition to posting about new items in my TPT store, I am also going to post some pictures of the work that we completed in the classroom at the end of last year. I did take pictures with the full intention of posting them on my blog but as I mentioned, things got crazy busy and it just didn't happen.   I will be busy posting this summer though so keep checking back! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

We Went to the Zoo! How About You?

These past few weeks we have been busy getting ready for the zoo! This is definitely one of my favorite times of the year. The kiddos are always so excited to learn about all of the different animals and I love all of the cute projects and activities that are available to help get us ready. We created many of the animals from Julie Lee's Faces at the Zoo Unit.

Check out these cute activities by clicking on the giraffe above!

We have also been busy learning about measurement. The kiddos finished our unit on measurement by completing an adorable project from Kim Jordano's Jazzy Math Journal Pack.

Each child painted their own unique flower and then measured the flower using an inchworm. The students art work definitely made a beautiful garden outside of the classroom!

What have you been working on these past few weeks. We'll be moving on to a unit on geometry shortly and I will hopefully be posting more soon!

Thanks a bunch
~Kay

P.S. I will be posting a few new things in my TPT store shortly. Be on the lookout! :)

Write the Room

Hello Everyone! I hope that you are all enjoying a wonderful Sunday morning! I wanted to post about one of my new favorite activities in the classroom, write the room! However, I am not talking about write the room activities for Language Arts. I am talking about write the room activities for Math! When I saw how much my kiddos loved working on write the room activities during the Daily 5, I knew that I needed to incorporate it into my math stations. This month, we have been working hard on measurement and I decided to have the kiddos measure butterflies around the classroom. They did an awesome job! I am posting a few pictures of the activity here on my blog and will be posting the activity as a freebie in my TPT store.

I just adore the beautiful graphics by Krista Wallden!! If you have not already, you have got to check out her graphics!!

Do you do a math related write the room in your classroom? I would love to hear from you! Also, if you download this item from my store and could leave feedback, that would be fabulous!!!

Thanks a bunch!

New TPT Items and Re-telling!

Hello Wonderful Bloggers!!
I apologize for being such a poor blogger recently but life has definitely gotten bUsY!! I don't know about you but coughs and icky colds have been the name of the game recently :( I hope that all of you have been healthier (and warmer) than I have been! I am definitely NOT a fan of cold, rainy weather. Alrighty, enough of the bad stuff, let's get onto the fun stuff, the sunnier stuff!! :)
First off, I have added a few new items to my TPT shop. I have uploaded a St. Patrick's Day syllable's  game and a St. Patrick's Day rhyming game.

I have also uploaded a Spring syllables game and an egg-themed sight word game.

I hope that you will check out these new items at my TPT store!! I will be adding more items soon :)

In the classroom, we have been working a lot on re-telling. I love working on re-telling and I'm always looking for great, new ideas to make it fun and exciting for my students. One resource that I think is fantastic is Leslie at kindergartenWorks 22 Famous Story Retelling Ideas http://www.kindergartenworks.com/2011/06/never-ending-story.html. Leslie includes a variety of pictures and ideas to support your students as they practice re-telling. The ideas for props and the links are fantastic. The items that she suggests definitely helps to make re-telling more fun for the students. The simplicity of the props also makes it easier for the teacher to transfer these items to an independent center where students can practice re-telling individually or with a partner. If you have not yet checked out Leslie's blog, you MUST!!
On her blog, Leslie also references the website http://www.kizclub.com/stories.htm. This is another great resource for re-telling pictures/props. It includes both color and B&W images for a lot of familiar stories.
Lastly, I just purchased Kim Adsit's Reader's Theater Bundle and it as adorable (as are all of her resources!!). I am hopeful that this unit will help my students re-tell familiar stories.
So, what resources do you use to help your students with re-telling? I would love it if you could leave a comment describing the resources that you use or any other creative ideas that you implement in your classroom to encourage re-telling!

Thanks!
~Kay
